Hillsboro -- William J. Smith, 71, of Portland Arch Community died today (July 8, 1968) at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill. He had been ill 2 months. Born March 4, 1897, west of Newtown, he was the son of Eli and Nellie Lighty Smith. he was married in 1918 to Margaret Larr who died March 28, 1959. A resident of Newtown and Attica areas most of his life, he was a graduate of the Newtown HS and member of the Union Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Charles of Hillsboro RR; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Adkins and Mrs. Delcie Ireland, both of Central Park community near Danville and two grandchildren. Services at 2:30 p.m Wednesday at Union Christian Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. The body is at Crumley-William Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Body will be taken to the church an hour before services.
