Mrs. Maria Jane Walker, a pioneer resident of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Yerkes, six miles south of Covington, shortly after midnight Thursday night. Deceased was born April 5th 1836, died Oct. 24, 1907, age 71 years 6 months and 19 days. She had been sick since the death of her husband, Eli Walker, which occurred last Februry. She gradually grew worse and her demise was not unexpected. Congestion of the lungs is given as the immediate cause of death. Deceased is the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive, they are Mrs. Henry Ramser and Mrs. Wm. Yerkes of this place, Anna Walker of Chanute, Kan., and four sons, Capt. W. G. Walker, of Danville, Elmer of Kansas, Monroe, of Nebraska, and Sidney, of Indianapolis. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the home of her daughter, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Mt.
