GESSIE — Funeral services for Daniel Wann, age 81, a former Gessie resident, who died Friday, Nov. 27, at a Frankfort hospital after a long illness, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Eller Funeral Home in Frankfort. The Rev. C. A. Wallace officiated and burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery there. Mr. Wann was a railroad employee 47 years. He was the engineer on the last steam locomotive in Frankfort and on the first diesel there. He was born Sept. 20, 1883, in Parke County, the son of Daniel and Anna Thompson Wan. He was married to Elizabeth G. Ritchie. As a young man, he lived two miles south of Gessie. He worked at the old brickyards west of Danville, Ill., and rode back and forth each day on a bicycle. He later worked for the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad but was employed by Nickel Plate Railroad most of his career. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frankfort, Cayuga Masonic Lodge 584, Frankfort Moose Lodge 7, Spanish American War Veterans, American Legion Post 12 of Frankfort, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an honorary member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War and World War I. He is survived by: his wife; three sons, Clifford C. of Indianapolis, Forrest G. of Terre Haute and Daniel R. of Frankfort; one stepson, Earl of Gary; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Smith of Jefferson; two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Penticoff of Freeport, Ill., and Mrs. Eva Boggs of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, one son and two daughters.   --typed by Walt W
