STOCKWELL -- Funeral services for Frank Foster Washburn, 35, son of Mrs. Pearl Washburn, will be conducted at 1 p. m. Friday at the Dickerson Mortuary here in charge of Rev. Victor Ramsey. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery. Mr. Washburn, who was single, was found Monday severely injured in his room at 7527 Essex Ave., Chicago, and died about 5 p. m. Tuesday at the Jackson Park Hospital there. He had lived in Chicago 16 years and at the time of his death was employed by the Pacific and Atlantic Shipping Co. Chicago police reported no lead Wednesday night in the slaying. Several acquaintances of Washburn were questioned in the case, police said, but provided no information to aid the investigation. Washburn, a billing clerk, was found by his employer, Nicholas Etzkorn, 42, who missed Washburn at work since Thursday. Washburn never recovered consciousness after being taken to the hospital, police said. Police said they found Washburn on the floor of the room. They said the walls were spattered with blood and a broken chair and a piece of a ladder were found near the body. No weapon was discovered, investigators reported, which could have caused a deep gash in Washburn's head. Police said Washburn's thick-lensed glasses, which Etzkorn reported Washburn always wore, were missing. Washburn's automobile was found parked in an alley behind the building where a janitor said it had been parked since Friday night. Friends may pay their respects at the Dickerson Funeral Home after 3 p. m. Thursday, but the casket will not be opened. The deceased was born July 10, 1921, in Fountain County and formerly lived near Newtown. His father, Jesse Washburn, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Stockwell Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to the mother, is a sister, Mrs. Robert Victor, also of Stockwell.   --typed by Walt W
