WINGATE — Eugene F. "Gene" Webb, 67, of Lafayette, a former resident of Wingate, died Friday in Home Hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He had been in ill health eight months. Mr. Webb, former manager of Southworth's Book Store at West Lafayette, was reared at Wingate. He was a top athlete and graduate of Wingate High School. He was also a graduate of Lafayette Business College. He was employed 12 years in the Purdue University purchasing department and worked at Southworth's 26 years. He retired in 1970. He later worked at Silver's Men and Boys Store at Lafayette, retiring again one year ago. Born in Pontiac, Mich., Mr. Webb was married in 1930 to Beatrice Hayes. She survives. Surviving with the wife is a daughter, Mrs. James (Pat) Kiser of Lafayette. Services will be Monday at Lafayette.
