William A. Wendal, 86, a resident of Crawfordsville for the past several years, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday at the Westbrook Nursing Home where he had been a patient for the last three weeks. He had been ill since September and seriously ill for four days prior to his death. He had been a farmer, machinist and timber cutter before his retirement. Mr. Wendal was born in Howard Township, Parke County, on June 29, 1879, the son of Henry and Julia Hendricks Wendal. He married Myrtle Campbell. She preceded him in death in 1922. He moved to the Wallace community in Fountain County in 1918. In 1958, he moved to 908 S. Walnut St. in Crawfordsville. Mr. Wendal received his education in Parke County. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Cox of Rt. 4, Veedersburg; a son, Willard (Jack) Wendal of Waynetown; 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ella Wallage of Marysville, Calif., Mrs. Bell Glick of Paris. Ill., and Mrs. Opal Hurst of Chrisman, Ill. He was also preceded in death by a son, Orville; a brother, and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery at Wallace. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday. – jlr

WAYNETOWN – Funeral services for William A. Wendall were conducted at the Servies Funeral Home Friday afternoon. Rev. John R. Servies officiated. Organ music was played by Mrs. Nellie Snyder. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Don Wendall, Bill Wendall, Dale Wendall, Ronnie Wendall, Bill Kern and Marion Maxwell. They also assisted with the flowers. The burial took place in the Lutheran Cemetery at Wallace. – jlr
