WHARFF, Otis

Otis D. Wharff, 60, a steamfitter for the past 27 years, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday at the home of daughter, Mrs. Charles Van Laere, in Attica. His death resulted from a stroke and complications. Born April 29, 1908 in Terre Haute, Mr. Wharff was the son of Flora Ethel and Frank Wharff. He was married July 19, 1930 to Geneva E. Bir. She died Nov. 19, 1954. Mr. Wharff was educated in the Crawfordsville schools and was in the grocery business with his father in the early part of his life. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Eagles and Moose lodges. He also was a member of Steamfitters Local No. 240 at Lafayette. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Van Laere, at whose home he died; Mrs. Clarence Vontress of Greencastle; Mrs. Don Gilliland of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Charles Craft Jr. of Attica; two sons, Bernard Wharff of Crawfordsville and Pfc. Wayne Wharff serving with the U. S. Army in Germany; seven sisters, Mrs. Louise Kennedy, Mrs. Mary Luby, Mrs. Margaret Haworth, Mrs. Edith Fornal, Mrs. Dorothy Branch, Mrs. Elizabeth Crouch and Mrs. Judith Kellison, all of Hammond; three brothers, Harold Wharff Sr. and Robert Wharff, both of Crawfordsville, and Eddie Lee Wharff of Hammond; 24 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. An infant son, in addition to his wife, preceded Mr. Wharff in death. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from the son in Germany. The body is at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home.   – jlr
