VEEDERSBURG — Roy C. Whitaker, 71, 1601 N. Dry Run Road, Veedersburg, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003 in V.A. Medical Center, Indianapolis. He was born May 30, 1931 in Alabama, the son of James Andy and Irene Selby Whitaker. He married Joan Laurel Vicari July 13, 1989 in Chattanooga, Tenn. She survives. He formerly lived in Kingman and had lived near Mellott since 1995 He worked as a self employed building contractor. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He had attended the United Church of Christ in Mellott. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post in Kingman. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Roy Whitaker, Jr., Hobart; seven daughters, Nancy (Kenny) Winslow, Midlothian, Ill., Mickie Summerford, Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Ann (Richard) Blackburn, Veedersburg, Patricia (Doug) Becker, Valparaiso, Julie (Jerry) Betz, Lake Village, Theresa (Troy) Hollar, Veedersburg and Angela (George) Britton, Kingman; a brother, James "Pete” Whitaker, Alabama, 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Mellott United Church of Christ with Pastor Richard Carty officiating. Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, was in charge of arrangements. – jlr
