George Riley White, son of Alexander and Hannah White was born in February 1844 in Wabash Township, Fountain County, Indiana at the old homestead which stood on the site of the present building a short way north of White Chapel at the intersection of Perrysville Road with the main road north and south. His parents were pioneers in this county and entered the land belonging to the homestead from the government and their home was the meeting place of the congregation of a Baptist Church for a considerable time and until a Mt. Carmel Baptist Church building of logs was erected, later to be replaced by the present structure, the land being donated by the father of the deceased and in the church yard of which both parents are buried. Early in life the departed united with this church and a (sic - in) late life moved his membership to a Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo, where it remained until his death. His younger manhood was spent in this locality, but for many of his later years, he had been in California, Colorado and Missouri. He was a member of the K of P Lodge of Covington, Indiana which he joined September 23, 1887, and of which he was a member at the time of his death. He died at Hot Springs, Ark Oct 21, 1922 at the age of seventy eight years, and is survived by two brothers, William and Albert. "No depth of agony but feels Some fragment of abiding trust; Whatever death inbarks or seals, The ? beyond is just."
