COVINGTON — William Nelson White, 90, a prominent Covington lawyer, died at his home here at 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. White had been Fountain County prosecuting attorney in 1906-10, president of the Fountain Trust Co. in Covington in 1940-64, was instrumental in getting the Fountain County courthouse erected in 1936-37, and was a Democratic nominee for judge of the Indiana Supreme Court in 1950. He had been president of the District Bar Association and a member of the Indiana and Fountain County Bar Associations. He was born March 9, 1875, in Daviess County to Jacob and Julia Ann Gregory White. He was married to Mary Campbell Feb. 16, 1898. She died in 1958. He was a member of the Covington Methodist Church and was superintendent of the Sunday School there. He was educated in Daviess County schools and attended normal schools in Princeton and Terre Haute. He farmed in Fountain County for a few years before graduating second in his class at the Indianapolis College of Law in 1905. He practiced law until his retirement Jan. 1 of this year. He is survived by two sons, Kippling C. of Evanston, Ill., and Luke White of Covington.

WHITE, William N. -- Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. Services at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Covington Methodist Church, the Revs. Don Ashley and George Beatty officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Body will lie in state at church one hour before services. Also surviving are two granddaughters and a grandson. A son, William Nelson White Jr. preceded him in death in 1909.
