Born: July 8, 1765.

Service: Served as Spy with his brother-in-law, Samuel Porter, under Col. Alexander Barnett of Russell Co. Virginia – about 7 mos. Received 5 shillings Vir. Currency per day for his service.

Proof: Pension Claim R 152. Claim rejected because he did not serve by order of competent authority and in a military capacity for 6 mos.

Died: After 1841. Probably buried in Butler Twp.

COOKSEY, ZACHARIAH

Born:

Service: In a sworn statement before the Judge of Franklin Court on Nov 13, 1832, he states that he was drafted in service in 1778, and served in Regt. Of Col. Darke, under Capt. Jennings and Col. Allen for 3 weeks. About a year later he was again drafted and served more than 2 mos. Under Capt. Riggins and Col. Netherton, afterwards served in Col. Darke’s Regt about 4 mos. Was at Yorktown. Served as a guard to Cornwallis’ army until they arrived at Nolens ferry where he (Cooksey) was discharged.

Service: While residing in Guilford Co, NC he volunteered and served as a private In the NC troops in Capt. John Leek’s Co, Col. Martin’s Regt as follows: from March 1780 6 mos in battle of Cross Creek; from Nov 1780, 6 mos. And was in battle of Guilford Court House; from July 1781, 6 mos. In an expedition against the Cherokee Indians.

Born: 1762 Ireland

Service: While residing in Loudoun Co, Virginia he enlisted in 1779 and served two years as pri in Capt. John Chapman’s Co. in Col. Crockett’s Virginia Regt and marched to the Falls of the Ohio against the Indians.

Born: Nov 14, 1754, Prince George County, Virginia

Service: Enlisted as a private from Westmoreland Virginia in Capt. Richard Parker’s Co., Col. Spotswood’s Regt. In Sept 1775; he was in the battle of Long Bridge and was discharged at Williamsburg, Virginia Aug 20, 1776.

Died: July 20, 1834, Fairfield Twp, Franklin Co, Ind.

EADS, HENRY

Born: 1755 On the Waters of the Shenandoah River in Virginia.

Service: Volunteered in 1776, while a resident of Kent Co, Maryland and served on short tours on alarms, from that year until 1782 – 3 yrs and 2 mos in all. All of his service was as a guard for the shores of Baltimore Bay ad Elk River. He was in a number of skirmishes, several of them quite severe and the British were frequently prevented from landing at the point of the bayonet.

FORDYCE, HENRY

Born: Nov 12, 1744 Essex Co., New Jersey.

Service: He enlisted sometime in Oct 1775; served in Capt. Andrew McMyers’ Co., Col. William Wind’s NJ Regt; was in the expedition to Canada and the battle of Three Rivers, and was discharged Nov 13, 1776. He enlisted Dec 1, 1776 and served at various time in the NJ Militia under Capts. Patten and Wharton in Col. Scudder’s Regt. He was in the battle of Elizabethtown and Connecticut Farms and many “severe skirmishes,” continued in this service until about Nov 1, 1781.

Died: Last payment of pension was made Sept 15, 1836.

Born: 1752 Morris County, New Jersey.

Service: While residing in Morris Co., NJ, he enlisted and served four tours in the NJ Troops as follows: from June (yr. not given), 1 mo in Capt. Jacob Gard’s Co; from Dec 1778 2 mos in Capt Peter Salmon’s Co; from June 1779 3 mos in Capt Samuel Morris’ Co; from April 1, 1780, 1 mo in Capt. Scott’s Co. All of the service was under Col. Jacob Drake He was in three skirmishes, two of Springfield, NJ and one at Elizabethtown, NJ.

Service: Virginia Militia, Halifax Co as a Minute Man from about Feb 1, 1781 for 6 weeks under Capt. Joseph Gill, Col. Peter Rogers. Marched last of July or first of Aug 1781 and served under Capt Jno. Faulkner, Peter Rogers and Jno. Richardson at the siege of York. Discharged Oct 20, 1781.

Born: 1742, Germany

Service: In a sworn statement before the Judge of Franklin County Court (Indiana) on Feb 12, 1833, in applying for a pension Peter Griner stated that he was 91 years old and a resident of Brookville Twp, Franklin Co. Entered service in 1776 being drafted for a month at a time for 8 mos. Served under Capt. James Ewing. Once when drafted he could not leave home due to illness of his wife – for this he was fined 3 pounds, which he paid to Capt. Ewing. Enlisted from New Jersey.

KEVER (McKEVER), JAMES

Born: 1759 Ireland.

Service: During the Rev. War he was living on Bush River in 96th District, SC. He was taken prisoner by the British and held from April to June when he made his escape and reached the Army under command of Gen. Greene. He volunteered and served from July 1780 to Sept 1780 as a private in Capt. George Dockin’s SC Company. Was in battle of Camden. Volunteered in Dec 1781, served 6 mos. As a ranger in Capt. Hugh Leaton’s (Seaton) SC Company.

Service: Enlisted near Petersburg, Virginia in 1779 or 1780; served as private in Capts. Lovely’s, Wilson’s and Coward’s companies; Cols. Davies, Hawes’ and Green’s Virginia Regiments. Was in the battles of Guilford Court House, Camden, Siege of 96 and Eutaw Springs, and was discharged by Major Snead, having served at least 18 mos.

Was in the battles of Brier Creek and Stoneo and in an engagement about 12 miles from Charleston, SC where he received several wounds. Was discharge Sept 1779. Later he served 9 mos. In Capt. Service: While residing in Augusta Co, Vir, he volunteered in 1781, served in Cap. David Givinn’s Company, Col. McCreary’s Virginia Regiment; marched to the South and joined Gen. Green’s Army. Was in battle of Guilford Court House and was slightly wounded. Served 6 mos.

Born: Jan 11, 1762, Dutchess County, New York

Service: While residing in Orange Co, NY, he enlisted April 10, 1776 and served as a sailor on board the schooner, “Olive Branch,” under Capt. Jacob Swim. Schooner captured by British Oct 28, 1776. Enlisted April 12, 1778 as private in Capt. Van Duzer’s NY Company, discharged July 12, 1778. Enlisted May 15, 1779 as private in Capt. Smith’s NY Company acted as guide to Gen. Wayne’s Army. Was at Stony Point. Discharged July 22, 1779. Enlisted April 1, 1780 under Lt. Dow in NY Troops, discharged Oct 1, 1780.

Service: Enlisted at commencement of war as a volunteer in Capt Weekley’s Co. of Dragoons and served throughout the war. Was in battles of Brandywine; Monmouth; Cowpens and Yorktown. Received two several wounds, one in the face and one in the hip.

SLIKER, LUCAS

Born: 1752 Sussex County, New Jersey.

Service: While living in Bedford Co, Penn he enlisted in the spring of 1776 and served 9 mos as private in Capt. Jeremiah Cott’s Company in Col. Piper’s Penn Regt. One year later he enlisted and served 6 mos. As private in Capt. Nehemiah Stokeley’s Pennsylvania Company and was in several small engagements with the Indians.

SMITH, RICHARD

Born: 1757

Service: Enlisted in Prince Edward County, Virginia in Feb 1780 in Capt. Parson’s Company Col. William Washington’s Regiment of Light Dragoons. He was in the battle of Guilford Court House, was in the siege of 96 and was wounded in battle of Eutaw Springs. He was discharge in June 1782.

SNOW, LEMUEL

Born: Dec 7, 1759, Barnstable, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Service: Enlisted at age 16 from Boston, Mass and served continuously until end of war. Made Lt. when 18 years old. Discharged Oct 1781. Was engaged in several major battles, was at Valley Forge the entire winter, witnessed the execution of Major Andre, the evacuation of NY by the British and was with the Army at Newburgh when it was disbanded by Washington.

Service: Private in Capt. James Moore’s Company 2nd Regt, Somerset Militia 1777, 1778 and 1780. Received certificate from Quartermaster General’s Department for carting in the Rev. War.

Died: 1825. Buried Franklin Co, Ind.

VanWINKLE, JOHN

Born: March 16, 1754, Essex Co, NY.

Service: Enlisted Jan 1776 as private under Capts. Jonathan parson, Britten and Aaron Clark, Cols. Dayton, Ogden, Spencer and Barber in NJ Troops. Discharged Dec 1781. In battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Conn. Farms, Springfield, Yorktown.

Proof: Pension Claim S 32564

Died: after 1833. Buried on Louis Hinda Farm.

Born: Aug 24, 1750, London, England

Service: Enlisted from Culpepper County, Virginia. Received 200 acres of land for service for 3 yrs as a corporal in Virginia Continental Line. Made a Lt. of Militia of Hampshire County, Virinia March 15, 1782.

Proof: Pension record S 16566; McCallister’s “Virginia Militia in the Rev,” p. 293.

Died: Jan 26, 1837. Buried on Stoops Farm, Brookville Twp.

Married: Sarah Jonson (1758-1822).

WIGGINS, WILLIAM

Born: 1748, Bucks County, Penn.

Service: Enlisted from Buck’s County, Penn in the early part of the war and served 6 mos. In Capt.. Lott’s Company in Col. Penrose’s Penn Regt. Later he was placed in a leather factory in Philadelphia to make shoes for the soldiers.

Proof: Pension Claim S. 17781.

Died: Sept 1840. Buried McKindrie Church Burial Ground in Metamora Twp. Government marker placed by Twin Forks Chapter DAR.

Child: Mary m. Rev. Wm. Sherwood.

Born: 1750, Farmington, Conn.

Service: Drummer, Sgt Maj in Capt.. Sackett’s Company, Col. Woodbridge’s Regt. Mass. Troops. He kept the Company rolls.

Proof: Winchell Genealogy by Alexander Winchell, 2nd ed 1917.

Died: Aug 1820. Buried probably in Old Brookville Cemetery.

Married: 1777 Martha Hubbard (1749-1826).

Service: Member of Capt. John Lattimer’s Company, Col., Samuel H. Parson’s Regt. Conn. State Militia. Served 6 days on Lexington Alarm.

Died: 1824 (Will probated Feb 14, 1824, Brookville, Ind. Probably buried Old Cemetery, Brookville).

WOODWORTH, DYER

Born: Nov 20 1757, Salisbury, Conn.

Service: Enlisted while a resident of Oblong, NY as an Armorer in the Company commanded by Capt. Increase Childs in the Regt of Col. Livingston of the NY State Troops. In the 2nd year of the Rev. enlisted for 12 months most of which time he worked in the Armory Shops under the direction of Jacob Rieder. About a year after while a resident of Salisbury, Conn again enlisted for about 6 months in the Company commanded by Capt. Ensign in the Conn. State Troops.

Proof: Pension Claim S 17799. Last payment of pension Sept 27, 1833.

Died Prior to Feb 18, 1842 when administrator appointed. Franklin Co records. Perhaps buried NE of Brookville.
