Robert Fuchs



Richard J. Fuchs, age 94, of New Haven, Ohio, passed away at Oxford View Nursing Home Monday evening, September 21, 1998.

He was born February 22, 1904, in New Haven, Ohio, the son of Jacob and Anna (Hagen) Fuchs. He married Irene Walther who preceded him in death in 1971. He later married Verna Flinchpaugh who preceded him in death in 1993. He was a lifelong resident and a farmer in New Haven. He was a member and Past Master of Colum- bia Lodge #44 F.&A.M. He received his 70 year Masonic Pin in 1996.

He is survived by one son, John (Esther) Fuchs of Brookville; one daughter, June (Lester) Niederman of Millville; one brother, Arthur Fuchs of Campbellstown, Ohio; six grandchildren and 11great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Jacob, George and Albert Fuchs; and four sisters, Hilda Fuchs, Mary Runge, Katherine Fliehmen and Elizabeth Mettler.

Funeral service will be at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, 4032 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Ross, Ohio, Friday, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6-8:30 p.m. with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Crosby United Methodist Church, 9091 Church Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030.-





Richard Gillespie



Richard Gillespie of 410 Park Road, Greensburg, died at Heritage House of Greensburg, on Tuesday, September 22, at 2:50 a.m. He was 88 years old.

Born in Franklin County, on October 9, 1909, he was the son of David and Bertha (Sherwood) Gillespie. He had lived in the Clarksburg and Buena Vista communities for most of his life and was a Franklin County farmer for many years and was a broom maker for 80 years. Mr. Gillespie was a member of the Buena Vista Christian Church and served on the Posey Township Trustee Advisory Board for 30 years. He married the former Goldie M. Dice on December 24, 1929, and she survives.

Surviving, besides his wife, are four daughters, Mrs. George (Mary Ellen) Quick of Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Derizil (Ruby) Ford of Nashville, Marjorie Angell of Osgood and Mrs. Belvia (Norma Fay) Barker of Greensburg; two brothers, William Gillespie of Richmond and Harold Gillespie of Buena Vista; 10 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

Preceding Mr. Gillespie in death were one brother and one grand- daughter, Lisa.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 24, at Moster and Cox Mortuary in Rushville, and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. He will be laid to rest in the Clarksburg Cemetery, located in Decatur County. The officiating clergy will be the Rev. John Johnson.





Roy F. Hull



Roy F. Hull, 11022 Keeler Road, Brookville, died Friday, September 18, at his residence. He was 68 years old.

He was born on February 18, 1930, in Connersville, the son of Roy and Ruth (Hunt) Hull. He and the former Charlotte Onstott were married on June 7, 1956, and she survives. Mr. Hull came to Franklin County from Connersville in 1960. He retired November 1, 1992 from Farm Bureau Insurance after 35 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Connersville and the Connersville Masonic Lodge.

Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Vickie) Surguy of Brookville; two sons, Gary V. and wife, Diane Thomas of Blooming Grove and David W. and wife, Cathy Thomas of Brookville; one brother, Ralph E. Hull of Richmond; one sister, Helen M. Hull of Connersville; nine grandchildren, Shane A.Thomas, Misty D. Surguy, Nichole M. Baker, Justin M. Thomas, Amber E. Surguy, Kristofer J. Thomas, Kylie M. Thomas, Ashlee A. and Aleesha A. Surguy; one great- granddaughter, Mikayla W. Thomas; and his father and mother-in-law, James and Margarete Onstott, to whom he was very close.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son.

Rev. Dan McCollough conducted the funeral service on Tuesday, September 22, at First Baptist Church of Connersville. He was buried in Dale Cemetery, Connersville. Masonic memorial services were held at the visitation at Phillips and Meyers Funeral Home on Monday evening. Mr. Hull's family requests memorial donations be directed to First Baptist Church of Connersville or Franklin County EMS.





Robert R. Loos



Robert Ralph Loos, age 85, of 11074 Reservoir Road, Brookville, died Friday, September 18, at Brookville Healthcare Center.

He was born April 23, 1913, in Brookville, the son of Clem and Alice (Prifogle) Loos. He remained a lifelong resident of Brookville. On July 8, 1939; he married the former Mary Osburn, and she preceded him in death on August 10, 1971. Mr. Loos enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and attained the rank of Private First Class. After his discharge, he owned and operated Loos Garage in Brookville for many years. In addition, he retired from Philco- Ford in Connersville. Mr. Loos was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1010, Bernard Hurst Post 77 of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) Chapter 90, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Connersville, as well as the Moose Lodge in Connersville.

Survivors include a brother, Ernie Loos of Brookville; a sister, Helen Schube of Connersville; four godchildren, Ann Kuehh Ball and Matthew Dylan Ball of Brookville, Connie Speece of Shelbyville and Christopher Loos of Vermont, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Arthur Loos.

Monsignor Louis Schumacher officiated the funeral on Monday, September 21, at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery, where military graveside rites were offered by Bernard Hurst Post 77 of the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael School.





Wilma Prifogle



Wilma Prifogle, age 84, of 3188 North County Road 225 West, Connersville, passed away Monday, September 21, at Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville, where she had been a patient for the past 10 days. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

She was born October 6, 1913, in Connersville, the daughter ofCharles And Esta (Hall) Manlove, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on August 29, 1936 to Cecil Henry Prifogle. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Prifogle had been employed at IRC&D Motor Freight for 22 years and prior to that time was employed by J. J. Newberry 5 & 10 for eight years.

Survivors include her husband; one brother, Francis Manlove of Economy; two nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Lundy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, at 10 a.m., at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home with the Reverends Steve and Linda Brackney of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery, Connersville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4 to 9 p.m.





Esther R. Wirtz



Esther R. Wirtz, 9022 West Drive, Brookville, died at her home on Thursday, September 17. She was 79 years old.

She was born in Franklin County on August 3, 1919, to Henry and Theresa (Roth) Fledderman. She married Matthew J. Wirtz at St Mary's of the Rock Catholic Church on September 13, 1941. Mrs. Wirtz was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and had retired fwm Rosenbergers Market in 1994 after 27 years there.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Theresa) Faw of Connersville and Mrs. Sam (Diana) Schuck of Brookville, four grandchildren; one sister, Isabell Wells of Dalton, Georgia; and one brother, Clifford Fledderman of Everton.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don and Robert Fledderman; and one sister, Theresa Fledderman.

The funeral service was held Saturday, September 19, at St. Michael Catholic Church, with Msgr. Louis Schumacher officiating. She was laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery. The Hospice of Fayette Memorial Hospital and St. Michael School Building Fund is collecting memorial contributions. Cook Funeral Home in Brookville handled arrangements.





Belva Bauman



Belva M. Bauman, of Sunman, died Friday, September 25, at Hospitality Hall, Batesville, at the age of 91.

She was born in West Virginia, on June 26, 1907, the daughter of Ben and Myrtle (Dunkin) Boggess. She was married to Wilbur Baumanin October, 1933, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Penntown. Mrs. Bauman was a homemaker and member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the St. John Ladies' Aid Organization.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Wiedemann of Sunman; two sons, Don Bauman of St. Peters and Larry Bauman of Sunman; one sister, Clara Pohlar of Batesville;one brother, Lionel Alvin Boggess of Hamilton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Eugene Bauman; another son, Robert Bauman, who died on September 17, 1996; and her husband who died in December of 1958.

Pastor Judith Doll officiated the funeral service on Monday, September 28, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Penntown. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bauman's grandsons served as pallbearers. Cook Funeral Home of Sunman made arrangements. Monetary contributions, in her memory, may be directed to either the St. John church organ fund or to the Sunman Life Squad.





Mary A. Cooley



Mary A. Cooley, of Brookville, died at Brookville Healthcare Center, on Tuesday, September, 22, at the age of 95.

She was born to John and Bena (Yost) Senefeld on December 7, 1902, in Franklin County. She was married to William F. Cooley, who preceded her in death on February 24, 1972. Mrs. Cooley worked as a homemaker and was a member of the Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary E. LaFollette and Velma Reese, both of Brookville; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great- grandchildren.Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William F. Cooley, Jr.; one grandson; two great-grand- daughters; two sisters and two brothers.

Rev. Donald Miller, of the Brookville United Methodist Church, officiated the funeral at the convenience of the family. Burial took place in Maple Grove Cemetery. Family members served as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be directed to a favorite charity. Cook Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.





Dora Mae Frye



Dora Mae Frye, age 79, died at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at Dunn Hospital in Bedford. She had resided at 508 16th Street, Bedford.

Born January 1, 1919, in Richmond, she was the daughter of Jeff and Annabelle (Smith) Long. She married Virgil Alcom in 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1960. She worked several years in the healthcare field in nursing homes and home health. She was a member of the Metamora Baptist Church.

Survivoring are three sons, Buford Alcom of Bedford, Darrell Alcom of Sweetwater, Tennessee and Steven McQueen of Ringgold, Georgia, three daughters, Mrs. Moses (Mary) Woodson of Lebanon, Tennessee, Mrs. Andrew (Arnold) Pearson of Berea, Kentucky and Helen Gay of Bedford; several grandchildren, great-grand- children and great-great-grand- children; and several stepsons and stepdaughters.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, one son, two daughters and one granddaughter.

Graveside services were held Monday, September 28, at Laurel North Cemetery. Moster and Cox Mortuary in Laurel handled arrangements. The Rev. Ron McCollough officiated.





Donald Lee Gourley



Donald Lee Gourley, 48 years of age, of Bright, died suddenly on Saturday, September 26, in Dearborn County.

He was born September 27, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Velva Lorena (Rice) Gourley of Cincinnati and the late Thurlee Hudson Gourley. He was the owner of the American Water Conditioning in Harrison, Ohio. Mr. Gourley was the chairman of the Harrison Township Advisory Board and president of the Township Financial Board. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was married to the former Deborah Kay Adkins.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Michelle Lee Gourley of Bright, Leah Marie Graff of Keystone Heights, Florida and Samuel Donald Gourley of Bright; and one sister, Rita Darlene Walton of Rising Sun.

Services for Mr. Gourley were conducted on Tuesday, September 29, at Jackman-Kercheval Funeral Home in Harrison, Ohio. He was laid to rest in Arlington Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the North Dearborn Rescue Unit.





Priscilla Humes



Priscilla Jane Humes, 57 years old, of Madeira, Ohio, died Monday, September 14.

She was employed by Camargo Bakery in Madeira, Ohio, and actively involved with the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Humes; one son, Scott Humes; one daughter, Brandelyn Burnitt; three grandchildren, Braiden Burnitt and Lauren and Victoria Richards; and one brother, Larry Sheets of Brookville.

Monetary contributions, in Mrs. Humes' memory, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1117 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.





Denver Johnson



Denver Johnson, 52 years old, passed away at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He resided at 15040 Orchard Road, Brookville.

He is survived by his wife, Hollie Johnson; three children, Brian, Amanda and Brandon Johnson; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will begin at 11a.m. Wednesday, September 30, at Minges Funeral Home, 10385 New Haven Road, Harrison, Ohio. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison, Ohio.
