Brief Biography of WASHINGTON LEE (1819-1854)

Submitted by his 5th great-granddaughter Gale Lee Payne, 21 Jan 2011.

Washington Lee was born in Mason County Kentucky to (John) Andrew Lee and Catherine Hamilton.  He had a twin sister, Maryann Elizabeth Lee.  Washington married Amanda Priscilla Dorsey in Henderson Kentucky Oct 2, 1844. They moved to Princeton in 1851 where Washington was a home builder and a Sunday School teacher.  They were of the Methodist Religion. Amanda was the daughter of Noah Dorsey and Nancy Ann Hal.  Nancy Hall was the sister to Samuel Hall of Princeton, Gibson Co., IN.  Amanda's brothers were Richard Joshua Dorsey and William Levin Dorsey...both lived in Princeton and are buried in the Warnock cemetery.  Samuel Hall married  Sophia (I think) Prince...her first name may escape me...but she was the daughter of William Prince for whom Princeton was named.  Washington died rather suddenly in Princeton March 5, 1854.  Amanda moved back to Henderson with her five young children Samuel Dorsey Lee, John Andrew Lee, William Washington Lee, Eugenia Ann Lee, and Mary Elizabeth Lee.  She moved in with her mother Nancy Ann Hal Dorsey.
