Mary Josephine

--

16 Apr 1872

Daughter of Stewart Clark & Rachel (TRIPPETT) CUNNINGHAM.

Aged 23 years.

Note:  From Leland Cunningham’s Descendants of Andrew J Cunningham – “Mary Josephine Cunningham qualified as a teacher and taught her first term in what was called the Street School in Hazleton, Ind in 1868.  This was in a store building on a lot where Mrs. Kelly lives (1938).  The Octagon building was on the hill and overcrowded, so this building was provided.  Later she taught in schools in Washington, Twp. and taught her last school at Dunning School at Shiloh.  She contracted T. B. in going to and from school and died at the early age of 23.

She was kindhearted and religious.  Dr. E. J. Howard, in his diary, states she was converted in the great religious revival held in Hazleton in 1866, when saint and sinner were on the anxious seat.”
