WADESVILLE — Leo Clyde “Simon” Paul, 85, of Wadesville, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009 at home.

He was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church and the Knights of St. John and St. Wendel. He worked in maintenance for the Illinois Central Gulf railroad before his retirement in 1986. He loved playing clabber, farming and mowing the church cemetery at St. Wendel.

Survivors include are three daughters, Doris Taylor and her husband, Homer of Evansville, Diana Bates and husband, Tim of Hendersonville, Tenn., Brenda Wolfgang of Hendersonville, Tenn; son, Alvin Paul and his wife, Janet of Fort Branch; daughter-in-law, Karen Paul of Fort Branch; two sisters, Mary Zeller of St. Wendel, Lorita “Pat” Koester of Evansville; 11 grandchildren, Trina Reed and her husband, Steve, Michael Paul, Mark and Matthew Taylor, Megan, Justin and Kevin Paul, Catherine and Nathan Bates, Adam and Evan Wolfgang; and five great-grandchildren, Nick, Erik, Rachel, Alec and Christian Reed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn (Seibert) Paul in 2001; two sons, Mark Allen Paul in 1981, Daniel Paul in 2005; his parents, Joseph and Ella (Banks) Paul; son-in-law, Michael Wolfgang in 2008; sister, Patricia Phillips; and two brothers, Clarence and Philip Paul.

 

Funeral services will be hat 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at St. Wendel Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation was 1-7 p.m. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin St., Wadesville, where the church and Knights of St. John conducted a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at St. Wendel.
