HAWKINS, Texas — Mary Esther Lucas Clift, 92, formerly of Patoka, passed away Aug. 5, 2009, at home.

She was the daughter of Harley and Florence (Ellis) Lucas.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Princeton. Her professional training included an associate of arts degree from Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute. She retired in 1984 in the financial aid office at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.

Survivors include her son, Joseph William Clift, M.D.of Oakland, Calif.; daughters, Arlene Clift-Pellow, Ph.D. of Durham, NC; Myra Cecilia Clift of Hawkins, Texas; son, Cecil Walden Clift, of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil William Clift; brothers, Curtis Arthur and Edgar William; sisters, Hazel Lavonia Bryant and Bernice Caroline Greasham.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at at the Jarvis College Church (Disciples of Christ). Burial was in Pioneer Cemetery in Hawkins, Texas.
