FORT BRANCH, Ind. — Ida Berger Gleim, 96, of Ft. Branch, Indiana, passed away on Friday April 24, 2009, at River Oaks Health Campus, Princeton, Indiana. Ida was born on February 13, 1913 at her rural Ft. Branch home. Her parents were John G. and Elisabeth (Sollman) Berger.

She graduated from Ft. Branch High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Evansville College. She taught home economics and biology for many years at Ft. Branch High School. Her positive influence on her students over the years was well-known throughout the community.

Ida traveled frequently and often participated in summer tours sponsored by Evansville College, during one of which she met her future husband, Chester Gleim. They were married from August 7, 1965 until Chester's death in 1996.

She was a life-long member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ft. Branch, Indiana.

In addition to her husband, Ida was preceded in death by her parents, her two older sisters, Frieda Berger and Olga Berger Emerson, and her grand niece, Amanda Emerson.

Ida is survived by her nieces, Myra Emerson (husband, David Reed) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Engrid Emerson Vaughan of Oxford, Ohio, and by her nephew, Quentin Emerson M.D. of Owensville, Ind. She is also survived by eight grand nieces and nephews and ten great-grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Sunday at Stodghill Funeral Home, Hwy. 168, Ft. Branch. Memorial and burial services will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 27, at St. Paul's UCC, east of Ft. Branch on Hwy. 168.
