HAUBSTADT, Ind. — Walter A. Knapp, 85, of Haubstadt, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was born on March 3rd, 1924, in Haubstadt, Ind., to Joseph and Helen (Reising) Knapp. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, the Haubstadt K of C, St. James Mens Club. Walter was a very dedicated family man. He was a farmer for 40 years and after his retirement he enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Kiesel) Knapp of Haubstadt; 8 children, Connie (Tony) Goedde of St. Wendel, Ind., Kathy (Roger) Hall of St. Joe, Ind., Bill Knapp of Fort Branch, Ind., Rick (Vicky) Knapp of Evansville, Ind., Helen (David) Dilbeck of Fort Branch, Ind., Debbie (Eddie) VanBurren of Blairsville, Ga., Peggy (Duane) Elpers of Haubstadt, Ind., and Joe (Kathy) Knapp of Haubstadt, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Alma Lamey of Haubstadt, Ind., and Rosalee Sandefur of Calhoun, Ky. Preceding him in death are 2 brothers, Ray and Vic Knapp, and 3 sisters, Delores Kiesel and Sister Terance Knapp and Sister Elaine Knapp.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St James Church in Haubstadt, Ind., with Father Kenneth Betz, Father Kenneth Knapp and Father Tony Ernst officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Haubstadt, Ind.

Visitation will be today, June 26, 2009, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy 168 West in Fort Branch, Ind., and again at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.

A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family request donations maybe made to St James Church.
