POSEYVILLE, Ind. — Gladys Pauline (Boyle) Mauck, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 5, 2009, at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Flora (Jones) Boyle and Julius Boyle, and all of her siblings, brothers, Paul and Jack, and sisters, Clara, Margaret, Frieda, Imogene, and Mary Lou.

Pauline was born in Owensville, Indiana, on October 20, 1919. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1938 and then attended Bramwell's School of Business in Evansville. Later, she worked in the pharmacy of Deaconess Hospital until taking a job as a reproduction machine operator in the engineering department of Republic Aviation in September of 1942. She worked at the plant, which produced P-47 airplanes during WWII, until 1945. Pauline was named "Miss Raider 1944" and a picture of her perched on the propeller of a P-47 has been featured in Reminisce Magazine, as well as on the cover of a DVD of the 1940's. In 1987 she was honored to be the guest on a flight in a refurbished P-47.

Pauline also worked at Whirlpool and later owned and operated "The Little Red Caboose Antiques" in Poseyville and New Harmony. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Poseyville.

Pauline had a witty sense of humor and truly enjoyed her family and friends. She was an outstanding cook and loved reading recipes and collecting cookbooks. She also enjoyed canning, freezing and "putting up" fruits and vegetables from the garden. She was a fantastic storyteller and always had a story, poem, song, rhyme or Owensville Kickapoo cheer to share! She loved vacationing with family in Siesta Key, Florida.

Among those she leaves to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles Leonard Mauck; her children, Dan Mauck and wife, Debbie, of Cynthiana, Tim Mauck and wife, Kathy, of Poseyville, Susie Tooley and husband, Greg, of Poseyville; grandchildren, Dana (Danny) Elpers, Doug (Misty) Mauck, Korey (Lisa) Mauck, Kristopher Mauck, Lindsay, Kyle, and Whitney Tooley; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kaleb and Makenna Elpers, Melissa Wilson, Maya Mauck, Ty and Cade Mauck. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Phyllis Boyle and Kathleen Wiggins and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family extends a special thank you to everyone at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville for their tender loving care. A special thank you, also, to Dr. Allow, Dr. Tummala, Dr. Charles F. Moore and all of the wonderful nurses, techs, and staff on the 5th floor med/surg unit at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Thank you to special friend Dolores Hart, Pastor Jann Heseman, and Sister Jenny Miller and to the nurses and staff of the VNA Charlier Hospice Center, for all of their love, care and support.
