OAKLAND CITY — Kathleen Jeannie Seitz, 76 of Oakland City, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.

She was born July 19, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to Samuel and Carrie (Reese) Seitz.

Jeannie graduated from Oakland City High School, class of 1950, then graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Evansville. She practiced nursing for 40 years in the office of Dr. William E. Dye in Oakland City. Near the end of her career, she worked at Deaconess Hospital.

She was an accomplished cellist and played for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also an avid quilter and a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Perhaps Jeannie’s greatest accomplishment was putting her life on hold to care for her family and the community. Although she never had children of her own, she was a surrogate mother and grandmother to all.

Jeannie is survived and will be greatly missed by Bob Lochmueller who brought great joy to her the last few years of her life. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 15, 2009 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with the Rev. Douglas Low and Rev. Lee Ayers officiating. Burial will be at the Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
