PRINCETON, Ind. — Edward Norman Stilwell, 82, departed his physical home and went to live with his Savior, Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

He was born in Pike County, Indiana, October 7, 1926. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WW II and he received the honor of Sacred Order Of The Golden Dragon while aboard the U.S.S. LST 875. He retired in 1985 as mine manager of AMAX Keensburg, IL Mine and previously worked at the former King's Mine in Princeton. He also worked at the Potash mines in New Mexico from 1952 – 1968. After his retirement he worked part-time at Mid-States Products in Princeton.

He was affiliated with both the Muren Church of God and the Princeton Tower Heights Church of God. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 25 in Princeton. He was a Special Olympics coach for Gibson County Area Rehabilitation Center (GCARC) and also did volunteer work with them for many years. He was a long time member of United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Local 5179.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Ann (Swallow) Stilwell of Princeton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and LeRoy Medcalf of Princeton and Mechele and Michael Singleton of Evansville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Brian Medcalf, Shawn and Sausha Medcalf, Desiree (Medcalf) and Johnathun Harris, Heath and Jamie Singleton and Austin Singleton; six great grandchildren, Alyssa Medcalf, Macie Medcalf, twins: Kirra and Layla Medcalf, Kayne Harris and Rylee Singleton; one step-great grandson, Kalijah Harris; three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Stilwell of Boonville, Marilou Stilwell of Francisco and June Swallow of Fort Myers, FL; extended family members, Eric Kriebel of Anderson, IN, Jason Woodall of Bowman, IN and Marika (Bowman) Reynolds of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Pearl Stilwell; a son, Edward Eugene Stilwell; and two brothers, Ermiel and Russell Stilwell.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Rev. Donald Shaw and Pastor Patrick Harrigan. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday and again from 9 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at Colvin Funeral Home. Burial will be at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City. V.F.W. No. 1147 will provide full military rites at the cemetery.
