OAKLAND CITY — Lillian May Whitten, 88, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009.

Born Nov. 20, 1920 in Evansville, she was the daughter of Richard Everett and Elizabeth Mary (Geibel) Hurt.

She married Ralph Morton Whitten July 11, 1943, in Princeton. She was a 1939 graduate of Princeton High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught school for 33 years.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia Ann (Kenneth) Thomas of Oakland City, Jeanette Elaine (Wayne) Williams of Rapid City SD; Donna Jean (Jerry) Pearson of Catlin Ill.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband in 1965; half-sisters, Esther Koenig, Mary Hurt Bowen, Mattie Hurt Sawyer, Mamie Hurt Knepple; and half-brother, James Hurt.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCullough Grove Baptist Church in Oakland City, with the Rev. Ken Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Princeton.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City and from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the church.
