EVANSVILLE—Sharon Marie (Hodgen) Hochstetler, 67, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at home.

Born Sept. 27, 1942 in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., she was the daughter of Harry and Grace (Siekman) Hodgen. She attended Mackey High School and worked for the Evansville State Hospital until retirement.

Sharon will be remembered for her gracious generosity, love of family and friends. She spent many hours looking through gardening, cooking, and decorating books, as these were her passion. Sharon enjoyed going out to eat with her friends, but her most enjoyed role was being a grandma to her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth (Schmidt) Lashley and her husband Charles of Montgomery, Jennifer (Hochstetler) Austill of Oakland City; four grandchildren, Sarah Wickman, Hannah Austill, Helena Dersch, Kade Hochstetler; one great granddaughter, Grace Maria; brother, Clifford J. Hodgen and his wife Helen; two nieces, Amy VanMatre of Mackey, Diana Crowe of Aurora, Ill.; two great nieces; and one great nephew.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ernest E. Schmidt II; and daughter, Janet M. Hochstetler.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday at Zion Cemetery in Elberfeld. with the Rev. Steve Oeth officiating.
