PRINCETON — Dixie Lee Lewis, 92, of Princeton, formerly of Milwaukee, Wis., passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at Gibson General Hospital.

Dixie was born Sept. 26, 1917 in Hannibal, Mo. to Ross and Kathryn Nicholas.

She was executive secretary to the president of Hatco, Inc. (Milwaukee, Wis.) prior to her retirement in 1990. A noted singer and pianist, Dixie loved to entertain and did so for the USO during WWII as well as for her sorority, Phi Tau Omega, serving as their official pianist for many years.

Dixie is survived by her sister, Shirley C. Taylor; nephew, Dana and wife Jennifer Taylor; and great-niece Katie Taylor.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William R. Lewis; and nephew, Nick Taylor.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Doris A Beckerman officiating. Burial will follow at Decker Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Gibson General Hospital, Vista Care Hospice and Dr. Bruce Brink, Jr. for their care during Dixie’s illness. The family also wishes to thank the many friends who helped care for Dixie, Sandy Kolb, Jean Thompson, Janie Cloin and Joyce “LanieChandler.
