HAUBSTADT - Melvin J. "Mel" Martin, 75, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Born Dec. 22, 1933 in Haubstadt, he was the son of Carl and Flora (Knapp) Martin.

He resided in Francisco for the past year and a half. Mel retired as a self-employed carpenter.

He was a member Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, was a U.S. Army veteran and member of V.F.W. Post 6576 in Wadesville.

Survivors include his three sisters;, Imelda Heerdink of Evansville, Pat (Jim) Davis of St. Wendel, Annlee (Ed) Botzum of Haubstadt; five brothers, Don Martin of Houston, Texas, Jim (Judy) Martin of Princeton, Alvin Martin of Elberfeld, Gerald Martin of Fort Branch, Gene (Phyllis) Martin of St. Wendel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Rose Olinger; and three brothers; Neal, Virgil and Bob Martin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Ernst the celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 2714 and American Legion Post 194.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Wade Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until Mass time Saturday at the church.
