Howard A. Engler, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, Ill.

Born Aug. 5, 1931 in Princeton, he was the son of James P. and Elizabeth (Miller) Engler.

He married Margaret Aukland in Magnolia on March 7, 1959.

He attended high school in Princeton before joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Signal Corp. during the Korean War. He owned and operated an appliance repair shop in Wenona. He also served as supervisor of Evans Township for 10 years. He was a member of the Wenona Masonic Lodge and Wenona American Legion. He received his high school diploma from Wenona High School in 1959.

Survivors include son, Howard Alan Engler of Wenona; and one granddaughter, Melissa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret in 2003; three sisters; and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona with the Rev. Ivy Silas officiating. Burial will be in Wenona Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Friday.
