William Robert Richards, 90,  passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at St.John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo.

Born Sept. 29, 1919 in Pike County, he was the son of Joseph and LeeEtta (Luttrull) Richards.

He was married to Alma Edna Lytle in Evansville. He was a member and deacon in the Church of Jesus Christ. He was a former Princeton police officer. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in Iowa. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Survivors include his wife Alma; son, Jake of Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Debra Walker of Ava, Mo.;  three sisters, Medrith Messinger of Montpelier, Iowa, Laveda Cargal of Worthington, Lee Myers of Owensville, Regina Hacker of Davenport; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Delbert Richards; and sister, Mary Peterson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, Mo. Burial will be in the Ava Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation is 6-7:30 p.m.  Friday at the funeral home.
