William E.”Bill” Montgomery, 86, of Haubstadt, formerly of Evansville, passed Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville.

Born April 18, 1923 in Loogootee, he was the son of Harley and Delilah (Ellis) Montgomery.

Bill retired from Arkla/Preway Industries. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.  He was a member of The Machinist Union.  Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where was a cannoneer of heavy artillery. He was also a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1114.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Dixon and son-in-law Roger of Haubstadt. two nieces, Jo Ann Weyer of Evansville, Becky Boling of Northfield, Minn.; and a nephew, Jack Varner of Northfield, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cecilia Montgomery in 2004; three sisters,  Mary Emaline Montgomery, Margaret Varner, Mona Benedict; and two brothers, Robert and Harold Montgomery.  

 A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Betz the celebrant.  Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Haubstadt with military rites by V.F.W. Post 2714 and American Post 194.

 Visitation was 4-8 p.m.  Sunday at Wade Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 5 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until Mass time Monday at the church.
