William "Bill" Daniel Askren, Sr., 68, passed away Wednesday Jan. 13, 2010 at home.

Born Aug. 12, 1941 in Owensville, he was the son of Owen Ray and Oliver Mathilda (Defendall) Askren.

He retired in 1996 after 23 years as a truck driver with ADM Milling Co., Ed Hickey, and R & J Oil Co. and was a member of the Teamster’s Local 215. He served as a reserve deputy for the Posey County Sherriff’s Department.

Survivors include his wife of  46 years Rita (Willis) Askren; daughter, Teresa (Marcus) Miller of Elizabeth; two sons, William (Colleen) Askren, Jr. of Salt Lake, City, Utah, Brian Askren of Evansville; brother-in-law, Dudley Wright of Princeton; sister-in-law, Darlene Askren of Mt. Carmel, Ill; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1983; his mother in 2008; sister, Lois Wright in 2008; and brother, Gerald Askren in 2000.

 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. J.D. Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery in Fort Branch.

 Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
