Dixie A. (Coomer) Hickrod, 78 passed away Monday January 18, 2010 at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born Nov. 18, 1931 in Princeton, IN to Frank E. and Mildred (Miley) Coomer. Dixie retired in 1994 as a Registered Nurse working for 43 years for Dr. James F. Peck and Dr. Bruce Brink Sr. She had lived in Princeton her entire life.

She graduated from
Princeton High School in 1949 and was active on the reunion committee. She was a member of the Union Bethel Presbyterian Church rural Patoka, Beta Sigma Phi Laureate Chapter and held many offices in the state organization. She was a member of the Shiloh Union Bethel Homemakers Club, a member of the American Legion Ladies Aux. for 58 years and was the first President of the Jr. Legion Aux. at age 15. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Aux., the Salvation Army Aux. where she devoted many hours to help with fund raising and tornado disaster relief. She was a Past President of the Gibson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was a graduate of Vincennes University and Wishard Hospital School of Nursing.

Dixie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Barry Bane of Patoka; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Kathy Hickrod of Princeton; two brothers Richard (Susan) Coomer of Seabrook Island, SC, and James D. Coomer of Princeton; five grandchildren, Justin (Errin) Carr, Brad (Brooke) Bane, Greg (Stacey) Bane, Sarah (Matt) Deputy, and Rebekah (Matt) Holden; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 55 years Harold Dean Hickrod in 2007.

Funeral Services will be
10:30 a.m. Thursday January 21, 2010 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Jarmon Perkins and Rev. Ralph Walters officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Ft. Branch, IN. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
