Kenneth Russell "Russ" Carter, 77, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.

Born near Fort Branch, he was the fourth of eight children. 

After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in horticulture and serving two years in the US Army he settled in California, arriving in Fallbrook in the mid 1960s.

Ken worked at several nurseries in the Fallbrook/Vista area in his career and was a member of the Fallbrook Garden Club and the Fallbrook Art Association.  He was a long-term volunteer teacher of citizenship classes in Fallbrook, serving for at least the last 25 years.

Survivors include by five brothers and sisters, Joy Schneebeli (Bob) of Seattle, Wash., Pat Carter of Santa Monica, Calif., John Carter (Barb) of Tucson, Ariz., Ann Scheider of Claremont, Calfi., Judy Gardiner (Bob) of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Carter of Fort Branch; and 41 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Carter and Jessie Lowe Carter; and two brothers, Carl and David Carter. 

A memorial service will be take place at a later date in Fallbrook.   Burial of ashes will occur at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch.
