Vonda Strickland Miles, 66, passed away March 27, 2010 at home.

Born Jan. 9, 1944, in Princeton, she was the daughter of Earl and Ethel Ahlemann Strickland.

She grew up in Mackey. As an eighth grader in 1958, she competed in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., placing 22nd.

She married Glen Miles June 1, 1968.

She taught math and science at Francisco High School. She was a member of the United Community Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International Auxiliary and attended Plainfield Holiness Church.

Survivors include her husband, Glen; son, Tom (Jennifer) Miles; daughter, Becky Miles; sisters,  Ruth Ringham, Norma Miller, Joyce Parke, Marilyn Ireland, Bonnie Lundeen, Connie Barr, brothers, Dennis Strickland, Donald Strickland, Robert Strickland; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Miles; three brothers, Lloyd, Norman and Larry Strickland.

Visitation was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield, and funeral services at noon  Wednesday at United Community Church of the Nazarene, 149 Vestal Road, Plainfield.
