Riley Frederick Osborne, Jr., 90, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his home in Ringold, Okla. 

He was born July 2, 1920 and was raised with his younger sister Gertrude, in southern Indiana.  Riley attended Oakland City College until World War II when he enlisted as did so many others of the “Greatest Generation.”  

He married Connie Ruby Phillips on Feb. 12, 1942), daughter of Charles Edward and Ruby Phillips, just before boot camp.  During the war, he was trained as a map maker and decorated as an expert rifleman and for being wounded in action.  After the war, he finished college and photography school.  He worked in Texas, Indiana and Iowa as a professional photographer, then in Nevada as a chemist before settling back down in Oakland City as a professional photographer and printer. 

He and Connie raised their children near the paternal grandparents, Riley and Loretta Osborne.  Riley served on the finance committee, as treasurer, as a Sunday school teacher and as a deacon for the First Baptist Church in Oakland City.

His living family covers three generations.  His eldest son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda (Woods) Osborne reside in Owensboro, Ky, his next oldest son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Gertrude (Cau) Osborne, reside in Chula Vista, Calif.; his daughter and son-in-law, Jo (Osborne) and Tim Tate reside in Sterling, Va, his youngest daughter, Kathy (Osborne) and Kerry Warren, reside in Ringold, Okla.;  his grandchildren (and their spouses) include:  Leah Osborne, Riley and Becca (Holder) Osborne, Whitney Osborne, Jonathan Osborne, Jeff Tate, Justine Tate, Kathy Warren, Alina (Warren) and Adam Fennel, John Riley Warren;  his great-grandchildren include, Serina LeVay Hambrick and Zoe Elizabeth Fennel.

  He lost his beloved wife of 38 years when she passed away Dec. 12, 1980 after their children had all married. Riley Fredrick Osborne, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents,  Riley Fredrick Osborne, Sr. and Loretta Easter (Kissel) Osborne; his sister, Gertrude (Osborne) Kroger; and his loving wife, Connie Ruby (Phillips) Osborne.

 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at at the Oakland City General Baptist Church with Pastor Kerry Warren officiating.  Burial will follow in Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.  VFW Post 1147 will provide military graveside services.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City.
