Mary Catherine (Smith) Foust, 94, passed
away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010
a River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton.
Born April 24, 1916 in FortBranch, she was the daughter of Chester and Ida (Wright) Smith.
She was married to Earl D Foust of Akron, Ohio who preceded her in death in 1972.
She graduated from FortBranchHigh School in 1934. She had a B.S. Degree from IndianaStateUniversity and a Masters Degree from IndianaUniversity. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She
taught 10 years at MarletteSchool in FortBranch and 23 years at Marsh and Edgewood schools in Michigan
She was inducted into the Michigan City Area
Schools Wall of Fame in 1988. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church
in Michigan City where she was a member of Edith Boyd Circle and Prime Timers. She was past president of
both Delta Kappa Gamma and Woman’s Study Club. She was also a member of
N.E.A., Classroom Teachers, LaPorte County Retired
Teachers, A.A.R.P., an honorary member of the Friends of the Michigan City
Public Library, member at large of the National Society Daughters of the
American Revolution, and a charter member of the Woman’s Study Club
After retirement, she volunteered for the Reading is Fundamental program including five elementary
schools and she also conducted enrichment programs for second graders at EdgewoodSchool.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Martha
(Joseph) Carithers of Princeton; a nephew, Robert
(Diana) Carithers of Evansville; a great nephew Ryan Carithers; and a great niece, KelliCarithers, both of Evansville.
There will be private services for family
and friends at Saturday, Aug. 7,
2010 at Stodghill
Funeral Home in FortBranch with Dr. James Cramer officiating .
Burial will be in WalnutHillCemetery in FortBranch.
Visitation will be from until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home.
