G. Jeanette “Pete” Whittington, 79, of Francisco, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton.

Born March 20, 1931, in Mt. Olympus, she was the daughter of Otis and Nettie (Muncy) Nixon.

She worked as a nurse’s aid at Gibson General Hospital for more than 30 years. On July 4, 1951, she married Marlin Whittington in Princeton.

She was a regular attendee at the Hospital Retirees breakfast for many years and was formerly active with her husband in the Theshermans Park Antique and Horse drawn Machinery Harvest.  She was well known for her excellent cooking and her delicious cookies during the Christmas season. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church

Survivors include daughters,  Connie (Jim) Reis of Evansville, Cathy (Bob) Green of Francisco; sisters, Mollie (Bunny) Affolter of Evansville, Betty Whittington of Conroe Texas, Jane (Willy) Fichter of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Mary Whittington of Princeton; brothers-in-law; Fred Whittington of Petersburg, Leon (Alice) Whittington of Francisco; grandchildren, Carrie Mullen, Josh (Molly) Teeters, Sarah Green; great grandchildren, Malik Teeters, Tia Taylor, Brylee and Kylee Mullen; three step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlin Whittington on Sept. 6, 2003; brothers, Robert, Joe and Ralph Nixon.
