Roger B. Smith, 96, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 14, 2010 at Greenwood Health and Living Community.

Born Nov. 30, 1914  in Princeton, he was the son of Claude and Phoebe (Barnard) Smith.

Roger attended High School in Princeton and after graduation, enrolled at Wabash College in Crawfordsville. He then went on to Indiana University to earn a masters degree in chemistry. After college, he sought a career at Eli Lilly. He retired from Lilly’s after 38 years of service as a department head.

 During his life, he was a scout master with the Boy Scouts of America and filled his father’s post as a board member of the Patoka Bank in Patoka. He was also involved in numerous organizations, Chemistry Foundation, Wildlife Preservation and supported the Native Americans. He also volunteered his time to Meals on Wheels.

 Roger was a long standing member of Greenwood United Methodist Church. He assisted in putting together the church bulletins for many years.

 Survivors include a son, C.A. (Betty) Smith; and daughter, Sherry (George) Myers both of Newburgh; three grandchildren, Roger (Kelli) Smith of Newburgh, Cindy (Lance) Kegelman of Keller, Texas, Carey Reisz of Culver City, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren.

 A private service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville with the Rev Linda Lawler will officiating. Burial will be in the Blythe Chapel Cemetery.
