Evans Burke, 98, Passes Away Here

 

Evans Burke, 98, died about 11 p.m. Monday at his home south of the city after an illness of some 10 days.

 

Mr. Burke was born in Kentucky on October 15, 1850, and had served as a transport boat engineer before his retirement.

 

He is survived by two sons, Otto of Ft. Branch and Morgan Ernest of Marietta, Mo; a daughter, Fay Lay of Vincennes; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wright and Kendall Funeral home with the Rev. Temas Taylor of Ft. Branch officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery near Ft. Branch.

 

Mr. Burke is at the Wright and Kendall Funeral home where friends may call.
