WELZIE OTTIS MARVEL

Cynthiana - Ind., (Special) - Welzie Ottis Marvel, 80, a well known local farmer until his retirement, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (7 May 1957) at the home of his son, Dorris, northwest of Cynthiana.  A series of paralytic strokes was fatal.

 

The deceased had been an invalid for several years but critically ill only since Sunday.  Prior to his recent residence with his son here, he resided for 2 1/2 years with his daughter, Mrs. Daphne Thomas Walker, 425 Chestnut street, Mt. Vernon.

 

The body will be moved from Holder Funeral Home in Owensville late this afternoon to the home of a daughter, Mrs. James C. Calvert, in Cynthiana.  It will remain there until taken to the Presbyterian Church in Cynthiana for the funeral service.

 

Rev. Kenneth Stewart, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. Thomas Meyers, a former pastor, will conduct the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will be in Antioch cemetery north of Cynthiana.

 

Surviving are three sons, Dorris, and Lilburn, Cynthiana, the latter a heart patient in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, and Gerald W., Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Daphne Thomas Walker and Mrs. Vernita Brown, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. James C. Calvert, Cynthiana, and 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

 

Mr. Marvel's wife, nee Bertha A. Wilson, died in September, 1939.
