Mary (Merle) Mattingly

Mary (Merle) Mattingly, 86, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 1986, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Born Dec. 10, 1900 in Gibson County, Mrs. Mattingly was a resident of the Owensville Convalescent Home and had formerly resided in Fort Branch.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Louie Woods and Lorena Emerson; her husband, Forrest Mattingly who preceded her in death May 11, 1970; and a son, Earl Cleveland.

Surviving are five children, James Hickrod and Mrs. Selma Howell, both of Effingham, Ill., Max and Fred Gray, both of Millstadt, Ill.; a sister Pearl Gage of Danville, Ill.; and 23 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Stodghill Funeral Home in fort branch, with the Rev. Jack Eberhardt officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery in Owensville.
