James E. Deffendall, 77, of Oakland City, IN died Tuesday June 29, 2004 1:16 P.M. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

He was born on July 21, 1926 Oakland City to Robert & Anna (Coe) Deffendall.

He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 32 years service.  He was a Korean veteran in the United States Marine Corp, member of Oakland City F.&A.M. Lodge # 467, Trinity United Methodist Church, Oakland City Eagles Lodge, Oakland City American Legion Post # 256, Boy Scout Leader for 25 years, City Councilman for City of Oakland City for 12 years, Precinct Committee Man for 45 years, and Board Member of Columbia Township Board of Trustees.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years former Joann Byers; daughter’s and son-In-law Brenda and Larry Stoffel of Mackey, IN, Marsha and John Dodd, Oakland City, IN, son and daughter-in-law Jimmy and Taunya Deffendall Oakland City, IN; grandhildren Brian Grubb of Oakland City, IN, Angela Huey and husband Jeff of Princeton, IN. Sarah Pollock and husband Eric of Petersburg, IN, Julie, Chris and Jessica Stoffel of Mackey, IN, Aaron and Alex Deffendall of Oakland City, IN, Kenny Harvey Oakland City, IN; great grandchildren Jarrin and Jevin Huey, of Princeton, IN, Sway James Pollock Petersburg, IN; sister Dora Timberlake of Evansville, IN; several nieces & nephews

Funeral services will be Friday July 2, 2004, 2:00 P.M., Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel; burial in Forsythe Cemetery near Oakland City, IN, Rev. Bill Sweigart and Rev. Adam Payne and Rev. Alec Hensley officiating

Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00-8:00 P.M and from 8:00A.M. until services on Friday at the chapel.  A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Chapel.  American Legion Post # 256 will conduct military graveside services.
