Hobert Eldon “Hobe” Young, 74, former mayor of Oakland City IN (200-2004) passed away on Thursday June 16, 2005 1:22 P.M. at Deaconess Hospital Evansville, IN.

 

He was born September 21, 1930 in Pike Co, IN to Charles H. and Ethel (Copeland) Young.

 

He served as Oakland City Councilman for 6 years, Gibson County Democrat Party Treasurer for 8 years and Precinct Committeeman for 40 years.

 

He was retired from Enos Coal - Old Ben Coal .  He also was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, U.M.W.A. local # 5179, Oakland City American Legion Post # 256, Oakland City Eagles Lodge # 4298 , Oakland City Kiwanis where he is current President, Lifetime member of Princeton V.F W. Post # 1147, Knights of Columbus # 1131, Korean Veterans Association (Lifetime Member), Military Order of the Purple Heart (Lifetime Member) 25th infantry Association, 29th Infantry Division, Disabled American Veterans Association (Lifetime Member) Served in the Army during Korean War in the 27th Infantry Regiment and 25th Infantry Division of “Wolfhounds.”  He received the Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart, and Korean Medal of Freedom,, and C.I.B.

 

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Dolly (Darlene) Schultz formerly of Rochester, Minn.; three daughters, Patty and husband Steve Clutter of Lynnville, IN, Jackie and husband Michael Goldbach of Princeton, IN and Sally Young of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Seth and wife Heather Clutter, Zeb Clutter and Fiancee Jennifer DeWeese, Julie and husband Jim West, Jeff and wife Robin Goldbach, Kealy and husband Kit Turpin, Ferran Galbraith and Fiancee Aaron Mason, Alex and Erica Archer; great grandchildren, Kolin and Kegan Clutter, Ashley Clark, Lexi and Luke Goldbach, Daley Mason, Jacy Turpin; brother, Lloyd Young of Lynnville, IN; sisters, Grace Tetrick of Wesport, IN, Zella May Woolsey of Oakland City, IN, Brenda McGillem of Petersburg, IN, Earlene Saris of South Carolina.

 

His family was his life.

 

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday June 21,2005 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Fr. Bernie Etienne officiating, burial in Williams Cemetery near Oakland City, IN.

 

Visitation will Monday June 20, 2005 from 3:00-8:00 P.M at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel.  Wake service will be at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the chapel.  American Legion Post # 256 and V.F.W. Post # 1147 will conduct military graveside services.
