Paul D. Ashby, age 78, of Princeton, was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Gibson General Hospital.

He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Princeton and an active member of his beloved "Livewire" Sunday School Class. Paul graduated from Princeton High School in 1947. He served with the 11th Army Airborne Battalion in WWII. He was a life member of the VFW #1147 and a member of the funeral detail. Paul was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Prince Lodge #231 and a member of the Scottish Rite. He retired after 35 years of service from the Whirlpool Corp. in the model shop department.

Paul was a fun-loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, and just being outdoors. We are all going to miss his great sense of humor.

Paul was born on May 20, 1928 in Somerville, to Charles & Edna Ashby, both deceased. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Sheldon Ashby and an infant daughter, Jo Marie Ashby.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jonnie Ann (Foster) Ashby of Princeton; son, John Paul Ashby of Princeton; daughter & son-in-law, Robin & James E Schmidt of Evansville; 2 grandchildren, Daniel & Aaron Schmidt of Evansville; sister, Emma Lou McAtee of Princeton; brother & sister-in-law, Robert L. & Kate Ashby of Evansville; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Ann & John Ed Moore of Princeton.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday May 12, 2007 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Pastor Fred Brittain officiating. Burial will be at the Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton.

Friends may visit from 10 AM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. VFW Post #1147 will conduct military graveside services.
