Richard V. Banet, 92, of Princeton passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton. He lived most of his lifetime in the Gibson County area. 

He was born
May 5, 1915 in Princeton to Victor and Mary Banet who preceded him in death along with his wife Elizabeth “Babe” Banet on November 22, 2007; his sister Jeanette Groeger and a great grandson Trey Jones. 

Richard retired in 1976 from the U.S. Postal Service. He also served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. Richard belonged to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Princeton for 92 years. He was also a member of the V.F.W. 1147 and the Princeton Knights of Columbus. 

Richard is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joe Heldt of Columbus, IN, Mary Pendergrass of Scottsburg, IN, Julie and Phil Parr of Jasper, IN, one son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sandy Banet of Canton, GA and 1 brother Gerald Banet of Princeton; nine grandchildren and their spouses; Cathy (Bob) Goode, Patty (Steve) Surface, Tom (Jodi) Heldt, Andrea Hall, Shannon McGarrah, Katie McGarrah, Marc (Jessica) Parr, Shayna Banet and Sawyer Banet; six great-grandchildren; Madison and Kennedy Surface, Hannah and Haley Heldt, Siddha and Soloman Hall. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Tony Ernst and Fr. Ronald Zgunda officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, from 4 until
8 p.m. at the Colvin Funeral Home where members of the parish will recite a Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
