Mary Elizabeth “Tootie” (Townsend) Cross age 83 of rural Princeton died Monday Aug. 29, 2005 at the Gibson General Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

 

She was born Sept. 4, 1921 in Princeton IN to Roger and Florence (Hunter) Townsend. She and her family are descendants of pioneers who came to Gibson County about 1820. 

She was a lifelong member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Her grandfather Allison Hunter was
Fairview’s first pastor. She was devoted to her family and friends. Her major interest was music and she was an accomplished pianist. She loved homemaking especially cooking and sewing crafts. 

She is survived by her husband of 67 years Harold F. Cross; 2 sons and daughter-in-laws Darrell and Carol Cross, Princeton, IN and Don and Judy Cross, Bloomington, IN; 4 grandchildren Darren and Amanda Cross, Raleigh NC; Julianne and Dan Kirby, Dearborn MI; Sara Cross, Malmo, Sweden; and Joseph Cross, Bloomington; brother and sister-in-law; Roger Dean and Vivian Townsend,Princeton; sisters and brothers-in-law Florence, and Darrell Hill, Oakland City; and Dorothy and George Hadley, Princeton. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Hazel Markee

Funeral Services will be
11 a.m. Thursday Sept. 1, 2005 at the Fairview Presbyterian Church rural Princeton with the Rev. Tarrell Thompson officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

 

Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.
