Melvin R. Oing, 77, of Fort Branch, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 9th, 2005 at his residence.

 

Mel was born on May 30th, 1928 in Haubstadt, IN to the late Ben and Margaret (Wilm) Oing.

 

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN. He was an electrian and later was actively involved in the banking industry. Mel was a member of the Fifth Third Banks Board of Directors and the former Haubstadt State banks Board of Directors. He was a member of the Haubstadt Knights of Columbus and the Haubstadt Knights of St. John. Mel was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.  He also was a member of the Haubstadt American Legion.

 

Mel is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary W. (Winnie) Oing; 4 children and their spouses, Karin “Bill” Bruckert, of Alpharetta GA, Deb Oing of Kingston, RI, Randy “Mary” Oing of Green, Ohio, and Gayle “Rick” Fair of Brownsburg, IN; 2 brothers and 1 sister, Edwin Oing of Evansville, IN, Cletus Oing of Fort Branch, IN, and Alvina Reuber of Evansville, IN; 8 grandchildren, Bart and Alison Bruckert, Brandon, Lindsey, and Jared Oing, and Nathan, Seth and Drew Fair.

 

A mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 12th, 2005 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch. Father Tony Ernst and Father Paul Ferguson will be the celebrants. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

 

Friends may call for visitation on Monday, July11th, 2005 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch and again at the funeral home on Tuesday Morning From 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M.. A Rosary will be recited by the church parish, Monday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the Funeral Home. The Fort Branch VFW Post 2714 and Haubstadt American Legion will be Conducting Military services at the grave side on Tuesday
