Mildred Cecelia (Benkert) Wallace, 87, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

 

She was born to the late Leo and Rosetta Benkert on April 12, 1921 in Haubstadt, IN.

 

Mildred was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and the St. James Ladies Altar Society. She was active in her parish enjoying both quilting and cooking for parish social and turkey shoot. Mildred retired after 20 years as a cook from the Log Inn. She enjoyed exercising her culinary skills at large family gatherings. Mildred spent many hours crafting quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

 

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a son Steve, and a brother Bud Benkert.

 

Mildred is survived by her husband of 63 years, Omar (Tom) Wallace; children, Tom (Lorinda) Wallace of Ft. Branch, Barb (Ron) Stolz of Haubstadt, Pamela (Dennis) Wilderman of Evansville, Richard (Melissa) Wallace of Evansville, Jim (Bernadette) Wallace of Haubstadt, Karen (Dennis) Elpers of Haubstadt; daughter-in-law Sharon Wallace of Poseyville; Grandchildren, Deanna (Eric) Brackett, Phillip Kiersten) Stolz, Brad Wallace (fiancé Paige Norris), Adam Stolz, Chris Wallace (fiancé Jessica King), Christina (Brett) Ringo, Trisha (Craig) Neidig, Alicia (Eric) Elpers, Natalie Elpers, Kyle Wallace, Hannah Elpers, Kelsey Elpers Emily Wallace, Eric Wallace; step-grandchildren, Veronica Koester, Scott Bloomfield; great grandchildren, Jay Ringo, Devante Ringo, Caroline Brackett, Sam Brackett, Ethan Stolz, Elijah Ringo, Drew Stolz, Carson Neidig, and Jacob Brackett; sisters, Alberta Fehrenbacher of Evansville, June (Jim) Riedford of Evansville, Eljean (Marlin) Sollman of Haubstadt, Joyce (Charlie) Henderson of Haubstadt; a sister-in-law Aline Benkert; and many nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank Deaconess Hospital Emergency Room Staff as well as ICU 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Monday July 7, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the St James Catholic Church in Haubstadt with Father Kenneth Betz the celebrant, burial will be in the church cemetery.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, where a rosary will be recited by the church parish at 5:30 P.M. that evening. Additional visitation will be Monday, 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church.
