Mary Jo Gatewood, 75, of Mt. Carmel, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Born June 17, 1934 in Mt. Carmel, she was the daughter of Harvey Cyril “Sid” and Christina Rutter.

She was a 1952 graduate of from Mt. Carmel High School. She worked at Snap-on Tools for 34 years.

She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Harley Gatewood, son, Gary Gatewood (Carol) of Princeton; two daughters, Pamela Cable (Doug) of Dickinson, Texas, Angela Beard (Mike) of Goose Creek, SC; sisters, Louise Acree (Charles), and Shirley Healy of Mt. Carmel; brother, John Rutter (Marilyn), of Evansville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Linda Gatewood; and brother, Charles Rutter.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
