Ray E. Lange, 79, of Paris, Ill., passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, Ill.

Born
Dec. 24, 1929 in Brocton, Ill., he was the son of Albert E. and Marie (Hood) Lange.

He married Nora Maxine (Duckworth) Lange
Aug. 14, 1948 in Hopkinsville, Ky.

He was a farmer and Executive Director for the Edgar County Housing Authority.

He was a member of the Hume United Methodist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason in the Edgar Masonic Lodge 829 AF&AM, was a member of Palestine Commandry, Mattoon Council 10, Ansar Shrine Temple in Springfield, Ill., Danville Scottish Rite, past Master and member of Newman OES Chapter 260, past president of Hume Lions Club, past president of the Farmers Elevator of Melwood, Ill., was on the Edgar County Board from 1974-78, Edgar County Fair Board Director from 1957-81.

He was appointed commissioner of Edgar Housing Authority in 1965 and elected as chairman in August 1967. He resigned as commissioner in August 1978 and became Executive Director of the Housing Authority in September 1978, a position he held until 1996.

He was director of Illinois Association of Housing Authority from September 1980 to September 1994 and membership chairman from September 1988-94. He was
Shiloh Township supervisor from 1956-78.

 

 

Survivors include three sons, Phillip Lange of Princeton, Roger Lange of Brocton, Ill., William E. (Ed) Lange of Ellsworth, Ill., a friend, Maye Starwalt of Brocton, Ill., four granddaughters, Susan Lange, Jennifer Lange, Faith Lange, Caitlin Souza; five grandsons, Daniel, Alex, Blake, Christian, and Will Lange; and four great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nora Maxine (Duckworth) Lange on
July 20, 1996; brother, Earl Lange; and sister, Norma Wilfley.

Funeral services will be at
10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, 303 E. Wood St., Paris, Ill. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Masonic Lodge 829 AF&AM in Young America Cemetery.

Visitation will be
4-8 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 at the funeral home.
