Virgil Harold Nelson, 79, of Evansville, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, May 15, 2009, at Deaconess Hospice.

Harold was born
June 4, 1929 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.

Harold was a member and Deacon of the
Ft. Branch General Baptist Church and a member of the Ft. Branch Masonic Lodge 696.

Harold was a semi-professional tinkerer/piddler. He enjoyed yard work, pets, ice cream, and family dinners.

He retired from Mid States Rubber after 46 years. He continued his work career at Alexander Funeral Homes for an additional 10 years. He also volunteered at
Deaconess Hospital as a Red Coat for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Leona Faye (Herrin) Nelson of Evansville; daughters, Yonetta Sollman and husband, Mike of Ft. Branch, Tawana Poston and husband, Jim of Evansville, Yalanda Kappert and husband, Mike of Evansville; sisters, Lucille Morehead, Betty Woodruff, Nancy Woodruff, Martha McCollum; brothers, Rex Nelson, Larry Nelson, Bill Nelson; five grandchildren, Brandy Garrett, Candice Poston-Smith, Benjamin Sollman, Jessica Kappert, Taylor Kappert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Roxie Nelson; and brothers, Earl Nelson, Halbert Nelson, and Mario Nelson.

 

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Alexander North Chapel,with Pastor Steve Akins officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery (Evansville, Indiana.)

Visitation was
1-8 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. by the Ft. Branch Lodge 696 and Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at Alexander North Chapel.
