Emily Jean Powers, 80, of Evansville, and formerly of Oakland City, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born
Jan. 2, 1929 in Island, Ky., she was the daughter of J. Bernard and Martine (Sauer) Hughart.

Emily, who preferred to be called by her middle name of Jean, graduated from
Livermore High School in 1946. She then went to Lois Glen Beauty College and became a licensed beautician. She worked as a beautician in Owensboro, Ky. until 1954 when she started her family. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Evansville. She enjoyed talking about her grandchildren and boating with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Samuel S. Powers of
Evansville; brother, John F. Hughart of Hopkinsville, Ky.; son, Timothy J. and Sheri L. (Ayers) Powers; grandchildren, Lauren E., Alexander P., Nicholas L. Powers of Oakland City; and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul D. and Archie B. Hughart; and a son, Paul F. Powers.

Funeral services will be at
10 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville with Pastor Ray Deeter and Dr. James Pratt officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens in Owensboro, Ky.

Visitation is
4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Browning Funeral Home.
